Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

BJP : A Party Of Hindu Communalism

The BJP National Executive meeting in Ranchi has declared itself to be an avowed party of Hindu communalism. L.K. Advani’s speech is permeated with the idea of a “Hindu Rashtra”. It mischievously seeks to identify Hindus and Hinduism with the RSS concept of Hindutva.

In order to appropriate Hinduism for the BJP’s sectarian political purposes, Advani has accused the Communists and some other political forces of conspiring to destroy the Hindu ethos.

The people of this country have come to recognise the harmful politics based on Hindutva dished out by the RSS-BJP combine. Their attempt to make the arrest of the Kanchi Shankaracharya into a cause for Hinduism will fail just as its earlier attempts to utilise Uma Bharati’s arrest, or, the alleged insult to Savarkar.
Notwithstanding Advani’s claim that the BJP is a “chosen instrument of the divine”, the record of the BJP as a pro-imperialist and pro-rich party is well established. Such a party can never aspire to represent Indian nationalism, or, defend national sovereignty. The Left and democratic forces are prepared to meet this new challenge to the secular democratic edifice in the country.
