The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
The recent steps taken by the Indian government to improve relations with Pakistan are in the right direction. The telephonic conversation between the Indian and the Pakistani Prime Ministers should help to revive the dialogue between the two countries on all outstanding issues. This will be in the interests of the peoples of both countries
