Addressing a huge rally of people at Bankura on September 21, CPI(M) Polit Bureau Member Brinda Karat wondered why the Chief Minister of West Bengal is not being interrogated in the multi-crore Saradha Scam. She said this is happening despite a host of reports in the media indicating that the CBI investigations had revealed that Mamata Banerjee was in the know about the goings on in the chit fund company.

Expressing concern over the increasing incidents of violence against women in the state Brinda said that this has become a regular feature under the TMC rule. In most of these cases, it is the TMC hoodlums who are involved, she pointed out. She deplored the state government for not paying wages to the MNREGA workers. She also accused the BJP government at the Centre for promoting the interests of the corporates and the rich while paying lip service to needs of the common people. Where is the ache din, promised by the BJP she enquired. Prices of essential commodities are increasing by the day and it is going out of the reach of the common man, she said.

Speaking on the occasion, Bankura district Left Front Convener, Amiya Patra demanded that due wages of about Rs. 56 cores be paid to the MNREGA workers before the poojas.

A day earlier, Brinda Karat in a meeting at Malkita village in Burdwan, while condemning the alarming increase in incidents of attacks on the CPI(M) and Left Front supporters saluted the valiant women who were resisting such attacks putting their lives to risk.
