Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

Against Privatisation of Airports

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly opposes the decision of the Union Cabinet to go ahead with the privatisation of the Delhi and Mumbai airports.  There is no rationale whatsoever for handing over major airports to the private sector and the criteria prescribed makes it inevitable that foreign companies will be the bidders.  Since these airports, under the Airport Authority of India, are generating sufficient funds, there is no reason why they cannot be upgraded and modernised without privatisation.  The Vajpayee government has also ignored security concerns in taking this decision.
