Jharkhand: Firing Condemned

Left parties in Jharkhand severely condemn the indiscriminate police firing on farmers at Gola in Ramgarh District protesting against forcible acquisition of agricultural land for Inland Power Plant on 29th August.  The farmers were demanding compensation, employment and rehabilitation for their multi-crop lands and also compensation for damage caused due to pollution.

As per official reports, two persons were killed in the incident, though reports of death of more people are surfacing out through unofficial sources.

The power plant is also severely polluting the environment hampering agricultural activities of the peasants.

Meeting of the left parties held on August 31 at CPI(M) State Centre was attended by G.K.Baksi , State Secretary, Prakash Viplav, Praful Linda of CPI(M), Janardan Prasad, State Secretary CPI(ML), Radhakant Jha, State Secretary RSP, Mithilesh Singh (Marxist Co-ordination Committee) & Siddheshwar Singh of SUCI(C). Due to pre-occupation State Secretary of CPI could not attend the meeting.

They have demanded q high level Judicial Enquiry  by sitting judge of High Court, exemplary punishment of those responsible, compensation of Rs 50 lakh for each of  the families of the deceased, proper medical care for the injured, proper compensation, employment & rehabilitation employment for the displaced .

A delegation of the Left parties will meet the governor on 3rd September and a mass dharna will be organized at Ramgarh on 5th September.

After the meeting the leaders of left parties met the injured in Rajendra Institute of Medical Science, Ranchi, including a 12 year old boy and found that the victims are not being provided adequate medical care.

Delegation of CPI(M) State Committee will go to the spot tomorrow and meet the villagers and the members of the affected families.
