CPI(M) Delegation Meets Jharkhand Governor on Starvation Deaths

A CPI(M) delegation comprising Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat, Jharkhand State Secretary G.K.Bakshi and Secretariat members Prakash Biplav and a Praful Linda met the Jharkhand Governor over increased hunger and starvation deaths in the State and handed over a memorandum.

In Jharkhand because of Government policy of mandatory linkage of Aadhaar with ration cards, ration card holders are being denied their legal right to food under the Food Security Act. Eleven lakh ration cards have been cancelled. The delegation also demanded strict regulation of agencies offering employment to young people, particularly, adivasi women and trafficking them to cities. The delegation also reiterated the issues of displacement being faced by adivasis in the name of wild life sanctuaries. The Governor expressed concern over the issue of food security and gave an assurance of taking up the issues with the Government.
