Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the
following statement:

RSS/BJP ESCALATING VIOLENCE IN KERALA

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the bomb attack by RSS/BJP
goons on a public meeting in Thalassery, Kannur, Kerala yesterday, which was
being addressed by CPI(M) Polit Bureau member and State Secretary Kodiyeri
Balakrishnan. The meeting was held in connection with the inauguration of
the memorial of martyr K.P. Jithesh, who too was killed years back in an
attack by RSS. One CPI(M) worker, Sarath Lal was injured in the attack and
has been hospitalized.

This attack by the BJP/RSS hoodlums once again nails the lie that it is the
RSS/BJP which is at the receiving end of such violent attacks in Kerala,
particularly in the district of Kannur. Two days back a group of BJP workers
held a demonstration outside the Kerala House in Delhi, purportedly to
protest the attacks on its activists in Kerala.

The fact is that in Kerala it is the CPI(M) and other constituents of the
LDF that have been at the receiving end of the murderous attacks mounted by
the RSS and its outfits. Such attacks increase whenever the LDF is in
government in the state.

The current round of attacks began with the murder of CPI(M) worker
Ravindranath while he was participating in the procession following the
victory of Pinarayi Vijayan from the Dharmadom constituency. In the short
duration that the current LDF government has been in office as many as six
CPI(M) workers have been killed and scores of its members injured, Party
offices and houses of its members attacked and destroyed in brutal attacks
launched by the RSS.

The Polit Bureau calls upon the RSS/BJP to immediate stop such violent
attacks.
