The
Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following
statement:
Narendra
Modi has made a public attack, questioning the integrity of the Chief
Election Commissioner, J.M. Lyngdoh, on the basis of his religious identity.
Any personal attack on the CEC for his official conduct of work would by
itself been unconscionable, to make him a target on the basis of religion is
intolerable. This episode exposes Modi’s fascist mentality towards the minorities and should enable the entire
country to understand what is at the root
of the problem in Gujarat today.
It
is shocking, though revealing, that the national leadership of the BJP who act
as the mentors of Narendra Modi, should remain silent and refuse to condemn his
remarks. If any further proof is required about the
unsuitability of Narendra Modi continuing as Chief Minister, it is this
outburst.
