The Polit Bureau of
the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
The World Court has ruled that the security wall constructed by Israel in the occupied West Bank is illegal and should be dismantled. The Court has asked the United Nations to follow-up on this judgement.
The International
Court has ruled that the construction of the wall is contrary to international
law and is a grave infringement on the rights of Palestinians residing in the
West Bank. Israel has been in
illegal occupation of the West Bank since 1967.
With this categorical judgement by the World Court, the Sharon government
has been shown up to be a lawless regime.
The UPA government,
with its declared commitment to defend the rights of the Palestinian people,
should come out in full support of the World Court ruling.
The government should take
up the matter with the Israeli government, the United Nations and all
international forums to ensure that
the Court’s decision is put into effect.
