The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement: 

Impropriety of the US Ambassador

The US Ambassador’s David Mulford’s statement that investors will consider the Government policy of not hiking FDI cap in insurance and retail trade as a “breach of faith” is a grave impropriety. While acting as a lobbyist for US private interests, the Ambassador should remember that India has a democratic system where policy decisions are taken by the elected representatives of the people not decided by interests of the United States. The Government should take appropriate steps to convey disapproval of such a statement.
