Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) strongly condemns the police firing and violence in Vadodara which has led to the death of four persons.

Given the sensitive nature of the issue of the removal of the dargah in the name of clearing the road, the administration has totally mishandled the whole issue. This has caused apprehensions amongst the minority community and unnecessary tension in the area.

The Narendra Modi government, known for its insensitivity in handling such issues, must desist from taking any step that will further aggravate the situation.

A high level enquiry must be held to ascertain who is responsible for allowing the situation to develop in this manner.
