North-East Demands Continuation of Special Category Status
Chief minister Manik Sarkar met Prime minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday at South block to demand continuation of the special category status of the states of the North Eastern states. He urged the PM to urgently convene a meeting of the NEC to discuss the matters relating to the financial problems being faced by these states as the funding pattern of CSS are sought to be changed,adverse recommendations of the Finance commission not to give money for development projects and the possibility of the NE states not getting Normal central assistance, special central assistance and special plan assistance awards with the dismantling of the planning commission.
