Press Statement

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India have issued the following statement:

The CPI and the CPI(M) strongly condemn the wanton police firing on the march to the assembly organised by the Left parties in Hyderabad. According to first reports two of the protesters have been killed on the spot due to the firing. Scores have been injured and admitted to the government and private hospitals. Of these six are in a critical condition. It is feared that the death toll will increase.

The Naidu government is directly responsible for this brutal attack which has led to deaths and a number of people injured. Many women were injured in the brutal lathicharge.

The Chandrababu Naidu government had from the outset tried to stop the march to the state assembly which has been organised to protest against the unprecedented increase in electricity tariffs. The entire opposition in the state have been agitating for the last three months against this anti-people measure.

The CPI and CPI(M) have called upon all democratic forces to strongly protest against this vicious anti-democratic stand of the Chandrababu Naidu government. It calls upon all their units to organise protests against this brutal attack.
