Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

Curb Communal Violence by Strict Action

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses its serious concern at the spate of incidents of communal violence occurring in various parts of the country. There has been violence in Gorakhpur, Jabalpur and earlier in Bangalore. Some other incidents have taken place in Tirur in Kerala and Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh.

The consequences of the BJP’s aggressive communal stance at its Lucknow session are becoming evident.

A common feature in these incidents is the involvement of the RSS outfits which are observing the Golwalkar birth centenary. In some places like Bangalore and Tirur, Muslim fundamentalists have also created the provocation for RSS retaliation. In Gorakhpur, the notorious activities of the BJP MP and Mahant, Adityanath, are primarily responsible for the incidents of attack on the Muslim minorities in the region.

In many of these instances, the state administration failed to realise the calculated plan to stir up trouble by the communal forces. In Madhya Pradesh, the state government refuses to act to protect the minorities.
The Polit Bureau underlines the necessity for firm action to be taken by the state governments to put down such disruptive communal activities. The Central government should collate all the reports of the incidents and direct the state governments to take strict action to ensure that communal activities are curbed and peace maintained.
