The Left movement in Tripura reached a new mile stone on 19th August as more than 2.25 lakh people formed human chains at 96 spots across the state stretching to around 300 kilometres in all. The Land Acquisition Act of L894 was repealed and The Right To Fair Compensation And Transparency In Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 (LARR 2013) was passed in its place. This Act had emerged through long deliberations of the Parliamentary Standing Committee and a consultative process involving different political parties, organisations of the peasantry, rural poor and concerned individuals to try and achieve a consensus. Despite some limitations, the LARR 2013 had
certain principles enshrined in it to ensure some protection for the farmers and dependents on land and safeguard the food security concerns of the country.
Landslide Victory for Left Front in Tripura
Through this verdict the people of Tripura have demonstrated and reiterated their faith and confidence in the Left Front government. However, there is no room for complacency and self-boasting for this spectacular victory. This has only further heightened the responsibility of the Left Front and obviously the Left Front government. Keeping all these in mind, we shall have to prepare ourselves to discharge our responsibilities and tasks in a befitting manner with due guidance and cooperation of the people of Tripura at large.
