Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

In another shameless step, the Vajpayee government has dereserved the garment sector opening it to foreign capital upto 100 per cent. So far, the garment industry was in the small-scale industries reserved list. This sector employees lakhs of workers particularly women workers. By throwing open this labour intensive and vital export earning sector to big business and foreign capital, the Vajpayee government has struck a mortal blow at the future of thousands of small scale entrepreneurs.
The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly protests the changes in the textile policy of the government and demands that dereservation of the garment sector be cancelled forthwith
