CC homage to Comrade Khagen Das

CONDOLENCE RESOLUTION
(Adopted by the Central Committee at its meeting held on
January 19-21, 2018 at Kolkata)

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) pays homage to Comrade Khagen Das, member of the Central Committee and Convener of the Tripura Left Front. Khagen Das died today early morning at  Kolkata where he had come and participated in the meeting of the Central Committee. He was aged 80 years.

Khagen Das had migrated from erstwhile East Pakistan to Kolkata and did his schooling and college in Kolkata. After completing his post graduation from Kolkata University he worked briefly at the Kolkata Port Trust. Later on he shifted to Agartala in the 1960s and worked as a school teacher. It was during his involvement with the school teachers movement that he was attracted to the Party. He joined the Party in 1968.

He was the founder Secretary of the Democratic Youth Federation in Tripura. He was elected to the State Secretariat of the Party in 1994 and was elected to the Central Committee at its 18th Congress in 2005.

Khagen Das was elected to the Tripura Legislative Assembly twice in 1978 and 1983. He was revenue minister in the second Left Front government. He was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 1996 to 1998 and a member of the Lok Sabha from 1998 to 2014.

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) pays respectful tributes to his memory.
