Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

On UP Government's Stand On Ayodhya Case

The affidavit filed by the Uttar Pradesh state government in the Supreme Court has supported the second chargesheet filed by the CBI in the Rae Bareli Court. The affidavit has stated that there was no conspiracy by any political party in order to justify the dropping of the charge of conspiracy in the Babri Masjid demolition case.

This stand is surprising and very unfortunate. It may be recalled that the original chargesheet filed and admitted by the special court in Lucknow in 1997 had charged the accused in the demolition case with conspiracy under section 120 (B) of the IPC. The Samajwadi Party had been consistently taking the stand against the dilution of the original chargesheet and for bringing the culprits to book. The present affidavit is contrary to this stand taken so far.

To see that justice is done in this important case involving national unity and maintenance of the secular order, it is imperative that the trial be conducted with the original chargesheet.
