The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) calls upon the Central Government to immediately provide all assistance to the Uttarakhand government on a humanitarian basis to contain any further damage and to ensure speedy rehabilitation and livelihood of the affected people.
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) welcomes the judicial verdict on the floor test held in the Uttarkhand assembly, upholding the Constitution and the Bommai judgement that lays down that the majority has to be proved on the floor of the assembly and Article 356 should be used only as a last resort.

The horror and immense tragedy of the loss of human lives and unprecedented destruction of homes and livelihoods in the Kedarnath, Chamoli and other regions of Uttarakhand is still unfolding. The numbers of those killed is rising every day. The urgency of immediate rescue and evacuation operations for the thousands who are stranded cannot be emphasized enough. The Central Government must extend its full support to the State Government including for funds and materials.
