Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

Vajpayee Reveals BJP's Real Agenda

The Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's attendance at the Vishwa Hindu Parishad-sponsored meeting at New York and his speech there has once again revealed the real agenda of the BJP. It has also exposed the hypocrisy of the BJP leadership which finds it convenient at present to swear by the programme of the NDA.

Responding to the demand for the building of the Ram temple at Ayodhya, Vajpayee, in his speech, pointed to the BJP's not having a majority in Parliament and assured that when it has a two-third majority, it would fulfill the dreams of the RSS-VHP combine. He also declared his allegiance as a swayamsevak of the RSS.

These remarks of Vajpayee cannot be brushed away by the non-BJP partners in the NDA. They are dispensable as and when the BJP is in a position to assert itself.

After the demolition of the Babri Masjid, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad was banned for two years, a decision which was upheld by the Appeals Tribunal. The way the VHP has been promoted by the BJP-led government at the United Nations and the endorsement of its communal platform by the Prime Minister is a matter of serious concern for all democratic minded citizens.
