Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the government's decision to hike the price of diesel. The present BJP-led government having lost the confidence of the Lok Sabha is not entitled to take such decisions.

This increase coming on top of the hike announced in the budget will impose further burdens on the people and will have a cascading inflationary impact on the economy. Clearly, the increase in freight charges for transporting diesel in the railway budget, have been passed on to the consumer. In order to retain its fiscal balance, the government has thus imposed further burdens on the people.

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) calls for the cancellation of this decision.
