Press Statement

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), now in session at Delhi, has issued the following statement:

The Central Committee of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the stand of the BJP President Shri Kusabhau Thakre threatening President's rule in Tripura. The depredations of the extremist groups in Tripura who take shelter across the international border has intensified since the withdrawal of the army and BSF battalions by the Central government six months ago. The people of Tripura expect the Central government to fulfil its minimum obligations in this regard.

The BJP President, instead of making such authoritarian pronouncements about dismissing the state government, should ask the Central government why it is refusing to send adequate security forces to Tripura. The Central Committee reiterates its demand that the Central government immediately comply with the request of the state government for deployment of additional security forces.
