Tamilnadu

P.B. Communique

The CPI(M) state committees in West Bengal, Kerala, Tamilnadu and  Assam are scheduled to meet to prepare a detailed review of the CPI(M)’s performance in the elections and the post election political situation arising in these states.  On the basis of these review reports prepared by the state committees, the Central Committee will conduct its review at its forthcoming meeting from June 18-20.

Tamilnadu Floods

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) expresses its deep condolences to the families of over 108 people who have died due to unprecedented floods that continue to ravage parts of Tamilnadu.  Districts of Cuddalore, Thiruvalluvar, Kanyakumari and areas of Chennai city are severely inundated.

On AP & Telengana Killings

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the police action in the Seshachalam forest in Andhra Pradesh which has led to 20 people being shot dead. These persons were labourers hired for cutting down red sanders wood by those who illegally trade in it. The police claims regarding the incident are untenable as there is sufficient evidence to show that these labourers were killed with impunity.

Fishermen Issue: Hold Talks

The Polit Bureau expresses its deep concern at the continuing arrests and detention in Sri Lanka of fishermen from Tamilnadu. At present there are 210 fishermen and their 70 boats in Sri Lankan custody. The Central Government should immediately intervene to secure the release of the fishermen. The problems faced by the fishermen of both countries and the crossing of maritime boundaries have to be discussed and settled. This requires a concerted effort by holding talks between representatives of fishermen of both countries and the two governments.

Sivakasi Tragedy

These types of accidents have been recurring in Sivakasi. During the last twelve years 237 persons have lost their lives owing to fires in 88 firecracker manufacturing units in Sivakasi. The callous attitude of the government and the enforcement authorities are to blame for these accidents.
