On Delhi University

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) welcomes the restoration of the three year degree courses and the exit of the Vice Chancellor of Delhi University. It congratulates the teachers, students and employees of the university whose sustained and successful struggle has forced the roll back of the utterly arbitrary imposition of the FYUP (Four Year University Programme). The CPI(M) had consistently, both inside and outside Parliament, opposed the imposition of the FYUP.

It is essential for the UGC and the university faculties to ensure that the interests of the students who were forced to enroll in the programme last year are protected in all respects.

The admission process for the current year should not be delayed in any way.

The CPI(M) reiterates its commitment to the autonomy of universities, including Delhi University. The healthy functioning of an institution is critically dependent on democratization of decision making processes and regular dialogue with elected teacher and student representatives which was grossly violated by the self-serving actions of outgoing VC.
