Comrade Sudhangshu Dasgupta

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) deeply grieved at the passing away of Comrade Sudhangshu Dasgupta, veteran leader of the CPI(M) and one of the stalwarts of the Communist movement in West Bengal. Com. Dasgupta joined the Communist Party in 1936. Earlier he was in the Andaman Cellular jail with other revolutionaries where he became acquainted with Communist ideas. He belonged to a generation of Communists who played a pioneering role in spreading of Marxist ideology.

His contribution to the Party was immense. He was the founder editor of the Desh Hitaishee, the ideological journal of the West Bengal state committee of the Party. He took a firm stand against revisionism and became a member of the CPI(M) state committee in 1964 and continued in that position till his death. He was also a member of the state secretariat for a period.

Com. Dasgupta led an exemplary life as a Communist. He will always be remembered as a staunch Marxist-Leninist who taught successive generations about Marxism.

The Polit Bureau pays its respectful homage to his memory. It conveys its heartfelt condolences to his wife Com. Madhuri Dasgupta, his daughter and other family members.
