Lokpal

P.B. Communique

The sharing of Teesta waters is a bilateral issue between India and Bangladesh. The raising of this matter by Hillary Clinton, that too with the state Chief Minister, is an uncalled for and unacceptable intrusion into a strictly bilateral issue.

C.C. Communique

The Political Resolution has called for fighting the neo-liberal policies of the UPA government and mobilizing various sections of the working people who are affected by these policies adversely. This is a central task. The Resolution calls for continuing the struggle to isolate the communal forces and to thwart the designs of the Hindutva brigade. The Party will work to defeat the Congress and the BJP.

UPA Government Solely Responsible

The events orchestrated by the UPA Government leading to the abrupt adjournment of the Rajya Sabha, displays their utter contempt for Parliament. It constitutes a flagrant violation of the very principle of parliamentary democracy. It is precisely because the Government was facing certain defeat because of its lack of a majority to prevent the passage of important amendments being moved by the opposition to strengthen the Bill that it blocked the voting by adjourning the House sine die. It used its allies in different ways to sabotage the voting.

CPI(M) At All Parties Meeting

The battle against corruption, in order to be effective today, can be achieved only through a comprehensive reform of our political, legal, administrative and judicial systems and not through one-off or piece-meal measures. The establishment of an effective Lokpal institution is one such measure. This needs to be complemented by other measures.

Observance of August 23

Given the overwhelming support for the Anna Hazare fast, it is imperative that the Central Government immediately initiate talks with the representatives of the Anna Hazare group so that the issue of adopting an effective Lokpal legislation in parliament is resolved.

Stand on Lokpal

The battle against corruption, in order to be effective today, can be achieved only through a comprehensive reform of our political, legal, administrative and judicial systems and not through one-off or piece-meal measures. The establishment of an effective Lokpal institution is one such measure. This needs to be complemented by other measures.

Bring Effective Lokpal Bill

The CPI(M) has been advocating the setting up of a strong Lokpal authority to look into complaints of corruption against public servants and government officials. Efforts to bring about such a legislation have not made headway in the past. The draft proposed by the Government of India is inadequate and will not serve the purpose.
