Successful Hartal In West Bengal

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) congratulates the people of West Bengal for the successful general strike and hartal they observed today in the state. Despite large scale arrests, threats, intimidations and the unleashing of unprecedented violence by the state police and the ruling Trinamool Congress, the hartal evoked a spontaneous response from all walks of people in the state.

The Left Front will launch a strong protest if democratic rights of the people are attacked during the forthcoming municipality elections, scheduled to be held on April 18 and 25. We will not sit idle if the election process is turned into farce, said Dr Surjya Kanta Mishra, Leader of Opposition and Secretary of CPI (M) West Bengal State Committee, addressing an agitation program convened by the Left Front in front of the State Election Commission office on March 19.

Women Not Safe Under a Woman CM

Holding the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government responsible for the rise in number of crimes against women in West Bengal and demanding punishment for the culprits, West Bengal Left Front organised a protest rally on February 6 at Kolkata. More than 30 thousand Left Front workers from 13 districts of South Bengal participated in the rally from Ramlila Park to College Square today.
