Joint Action to protect people’s welfare

 

A joint meeting of the following political parties against State and Central Governments’ anti-people policies and to highlight the policies concerning the welfare of the people, was held on 27-07-2015 at Chennai.

1. Corrupt Central Ministers and BJP Chief Ministers should resign and  face enquiry.

 

2. Land Ordinance and Child Labour Amendment  bill as proposed by the Central Government  to be withdrawn.

 

3. Demands concerning the livelihood of peasants to be fulfilled so as to arrest the  peasants’ suicide, which is increasing day by day throughout the country.

 

4. Condemning  the communal activities by  BJP Govt; take action against  Sangh Parivar  who incites communal  clashes in a planned manner.

 

5. Contain spiraling prices of essential commodities due to globalization and liberalization;   drop   subsidy cut; don’t  take measures which affect  food security .  

 

 6. Bring Lok Ayukta in Tamilnadu to take legal action against those indulging in corruption  using their official power.  Arrest looting  of mineral wealth without any control ; Arrest deteriorating law and order;  ensure peaceful atmosphere to common people, stop  police excesses, stop curtailing democratic rights of people ;  caste atrocities to be handled with  iron hand;  bring special act to stop honour killing.

7. Tamilnadu  Govt  to insist the  Central Govt to order for CBI enquiry into  the killing of 20 Tamilians  by Andhra police.  Tamilnadu Govt to file an implead petition in the Hyderabad High Court where the case was taken up.

8. As per the award of Water Disputes Tribunal on Cauvery water between Tamilnadu and Karnataka, the Central Government should form Cauvery Management Board and Cauvery Water Regulation Committee without any delay.  Also the Central Government should take steps to see that the Karnataka Government  releases water from Cauvery as per the Tribunal’s award.  The Central Government should take immediate step to stop construction of  dam in Mekedatu by the Karnataka Government.  In order to pressurize the Karnataka Government and the Central Government, an all party meeting is to be convened. 

9. Tamilnadu Govt to take steps to see that the dues to be paid to sugar cane peasants  by Sugar factory owners, , which is around Rs.1000 crores, are paid without delay.

10. Prohibition is to be implemented in a phased manner.  The Central Govt instead of taking indirect steps to abandon MGNREGA, take effective steps to implement the same in toto.

11.  In Srilanka, lakhs of Tamilians were killed.  Those who are party to that heinous killing should be brought to book before the  Court  consisting of international judges and render justice to them.  Srilankan army should be sent back to barracks from North-East provinces of Srilanka.  Adequate  security and equal rights to Srilankan Tamils are to be ensured.  Centra Govt should take effective steps   to stop firing,   killing and confiscating of boats of Tamil fishermen  by Srilankan army often.  Also take steps to get those fishermen who are arrested and kept  in  Srilanka’s prisons released.

12. Death penalty should be abolished in toto in India.  Ex-Chief of RAW has stated that Yakub Memon was surrendered before Indian authorities;  he  cooperated with the investigating agencies and in the background of EX-Chief of RAW’s statement, Yakub Memon’s death penalty is to be revoked.

13.  The Central BJP Govt’s move to bring in methane gas project through ONGC  to be dropped. 

14.  We support the Sept 2 strike by workers,  rail roko, road roko against  anti people policies of the BJP led Central Govt and call the people of Tamilnadu to participate in those struggles in large numbers.

15.  Central Govt should intervene and call the  workers of NLC who are fighting for wage revision for a discussion and settle the issue amicably.

On behalf of the parties cited above, a rally and protest movement will be conducted in 5 cities at regional level, viz., 1. Chennai,  2. Thanjavur,  3. Madurai, 4. Tirunelveli and 5. Erode to highlight the above demands.  We request the people of Tamilnadu to extend support to above protest movement and participate in large numbers.
