The protocols and guidelines for tackling the pandemic have all been formulated through Central authorities. Therefore, the Centre must bear the main responsibility for providing compensation to Covid victims. The Supreme Court is still to pass the final orders in the case. Primary responsibility of the Centre must be ensured.

On Compensation to Families of Covid Victims
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) rejects the Central Government’s understanding with regard to compensation to Corona victims, as stipulated under the Disaster Management Act, which has been invoked by the Central Government to deal with the Covid pandemic. Under the provisions of this Act compensation to the victims of a disaster has to be paid.
Don’t Discriminate in Compensation
Smt. Brinda Karat, member, Polit Bureau of Communist Party of India (Marxist) had written the following letter to the Chief Minister of Delhi urging him to give compensation to the families of minor victims who were killed in the communal violence in north east Delhi.
On June 29th, the papers carried your statement, as Chief Minister of Haryana, condemning the murder. You also declared a compensation of Rs. Ten lakhs. Unfortunately no compensation whatsoever has been received by the family from the Government.
In utter disregard of the Jammu & Kashmir government’s earlier memorandum to the Central Government regarding grant of Rs 44000 crore as rehabilitation package, the Central Government has now announced a mere Rs. 1667 crore.
For a nuclear accident, which will involve loss of many more lives and grievous long term health consequences for many more, this is a serious attack on the rights of Indian citizens.The Left parties strongly oppose the introduction of this Bill in Parliament. They appeal to all parties to reject this Bill which is detrimental to the interests of the Indian people.
