Leader of the opposition in West Bengal Assembly Surjya Kanta Mishra said on October 4 that there is financial anarchy in West Bengal and the state tops the list in borrowing money from the market.

“Like every other sector, the anarchy prevails in the financial sector too. The government is borrowing money from the market regularly and spending it on organising festivals and events”, he said at Tamluk in Purba Medinipur district.
On Chief Minister Mamata Banergee’s accusations against the previous Left Front government for burdening the exchequer with a huge debt, the Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) said the allegations were baseless. “By any parameter-whether the ratio of debt to gross state domestic product, per capita borrowing or market borrowing, the State was not among the top when the Left was in power. It is only when the Trinmool Congress government assumed office that the State has become the highest market borrower,” Mishra sad.
