The 26 day long Kerala Raksha March led by state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan culminated on the shores of the Arabian Sea in the historic city of Kozhikode with a huge rally attended by tens of thousands of people. The march raised the slogan ‘Secular India and Developed Kerala’ reached Kozhikode after meeting lakhs of people in almost all constituencies in the state. The mammoth rally was inaugurated by CPI (M) General Secretary Prakash Karat. The twenty six day long march wrote a new chapter in the political history of Kerala with its massive attendance and its political content.
 
The march was started from Vayalar the land of historic struggle for independence of Travancore. Pinarayi Vijayan and jatha members A Vijyaraghavan, P K Sreemathi, E P Jayarajan, A K Balan, M V Govindan, Elamaram Karim, Baby John interacted with the people in 126 constituencies. In the concluding program people from four constituencies in Kozhikode participated.
 
The decaying PDS system, spiraling price rise, spreading communal passions by the anti social elements, corruption and the right wing policies were the issues highlighted during the march. Along with the march hundreds of artists, freedom fighters, social activists rallied. Thousands of people from other parties were also present in the reception meetings. At some places even late into the night thousands of people waited to meet and hear the leaders.
 
Farmers suffering a severe threat from the Central government’s decision to implement Kasturi Rangan report, workers in the traditional industries and coastal areas attended the meetings in large numbers. The march also received good receptions in the traditional strongholds of Muslim league and the BJP.
