The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) met on 26th December 2025, in New Delhi and issued the following communique.
Attacks on Minorities: Hindutva communal outfits such as the Bajrang Dal and other affiliates have carried out heinous attacks on Christians in various places, disrupting Christmas celebrations. The inaction of the government is deliberate and intended to facilitate such attacks. All this is part of the ongoing policy of the RSS–BJP to dismantle the secular State and establish a Hindu Rashtra. The Polit Bureau condemns these attacks and demands that the government uphold the values of the Constitution, on which it has taken an oath. The perpetrators of these attacks must be immediately brought to book and punished.
Scrapping of MGNREGA: The BJP-led Union Government has replaced MGNREGA with a severely diluted VBGRAMG, fundamentally altering the character of the demand and rights based employment guarantee scheme. The newly enacted Act shifts the financial burden from the Centre to the states while denying the states any say in its implementation. The government used its majority in Parliament to pass this Bill, which is detrimental to the interests of crores of rural workers. The CPI(M) extends its support to the struggles being carried out by various organisations against this change. The Party will join these forces and strengthen these struggles in the coming days.
Notification of Labour Codes: In yet another instance of its anti-worker policies, the BJP-led Union Government has gone ahead and notified the four labour codes despite widespread opposition from workers. These so-called labour law reforms are a gift to capitalist cronies close to the present government. The working class of the country is already mobilising in protest against these changes. The CPI(M) extends its support to this struggle and will actively join it.
Attacks in Assam: The Polit Bureau has expressed grave concern over the violence that has broken out in Karbi Anglong district of Assam, leading to two deaths and substantial destruction of property. The situation is being aggravated by clashes between groups along ethnic lines. This adverse development is the result of the ‘double-engine’ government in Assam and its approach of allowing ethnic fault lines to fester, thereby paving the way for polarisation. It is also a consequence of aggressive policies relating to eviction from land.
Bail to Former BJP MLA Convicted in Unnao Rape Case: The Delhi High Court has granted bail to Kuldeep Singh Sengar, a former BJP MLA convicted in the rape of a minor girl in Unnao. The survivor has gone on record detailing the various violent and coercive attempts made by him to influence her and other witnesses. Sengar is also convicted in the custodial killing of the survivor’s father. It is unfortunate that the Court failed to take cognisance of these serious facts while granting bail. Although he has not yet been released on technical grounds, this order is a black mark on the judicial system and does not inspire confidence among survivors in their fight for justice.
After the BJP assumed power at the Centre, incidents of violence against women, Dalits, and Adivasis have increased exponentially, particularly in BJP-ruled states. The failure of governments to act decisively against the accused, along with their indirect support, has emboldened such perpetrators. This reflects the anti-women, anti-Dalit, Manuvadi mindset of the current ruling dispensation.
Destruction of Aravalis: The recent changes proposed by the BJP government to the definition of the Aravalis, which have been accepted by the Supreme Court, raise serious concerns about the possible exploitation of these ecologically sensitive hill ranges. These changes appear intended to legalise mining and real estate activities that are damaging the hills and wreaking havoc on the fragile ecological terrain. The clarifications issued by the government do not inspire confidence. Unless there is a fundamental change in the policy of the Ministry of Environment, along with a restoration of the original definition of the Aravalis, there will be no real protection for these ranges.
Situation in Bangladesh: The Polit Bureau expresses its deep concern over the situation in Bangladesh. The interim government has failed to stop attacks on religious minorities and is allowing religious fundamentalist forces to act with impunity. Recent incidents, including the setting ablaze of a Hindu youth, and attacks on cultural bodies and media are highly condemnable. Such developments do not augur well for the security and unity of the country. We hope that the people of Bangladesh will not fall into the trap of religious fundamentalist forces and will stand united to defend the values of the 1971 Liberation Struggle. The Bangladesh government must act immediately to curb divisive forces and protect the rights of minorities.
Attack on Venezuela: The Polit Bureau condemns US aggression against Venezuela and its plans to launch a military attack. The newly adopted US National Security Strategy clearly indicates its intention to enforce the Monroe Doctrine in the Latin American region. Attacks on sovereignty and intervention in the internal affairs of countries such as Venezuela are in violation of the UN Charter and expose the hegemonic designs of the United States. We appeal to all progressive, democratic, and patriotic forces to stand united and oppose US aggression against Venezuela and across the entire region.
New Year Greetings: The Polit Bureau extends its New Year greetings to the people of our country. It is only through our united efforts that we can defeat the anti-people policies of the BJP government and thwart its attempts to convert India into a Hindu Rashtra.
Central Committee Meeting: The next meeting of the Central Committee of the CPI(M) will be held from January 16 to 18, 2026 in Trivandrum, Kerala.
