The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

Concern over Sonam Wangchuk’s Deteriorating Health

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses its concern over the deteriorating health of Sonam Wangchuk who is on a hunger strike demanding the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan for the leakage of the NEET paper.

The Union Government’s refusal to interact with the protesting leaders and students underlines its great insensitivity and authoritarian character. The failure of the Union Government to conduct leak proof examinations has its roots in the National Education Policy, NEP 2020. The centralisation and commercialisation of education system promoted by the NEP is leading to the mushrooming of the coaching industry. This, apart from communalisation, is the root cause of paper leakage and all kinds of irregularities.

The CPI(M) reiterates its demand for the immediate resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, scrapping of the NTA and NEP 2020.

The Polit Bureau calls upon all its units and concerned citizens to stand in solidarity with Sonam Wangchuk and other protesting students. Protests will be organised across the country on 20th July on these demands and in solidarity with Sonam Wangchuk.
