The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
Scrap NTA and NEP
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) reiterates its demand to scrap both the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the National Education Policy, 2020 – the root cause of the decay in the education system, in the light of the errors in the three NET-UGC examination papers conducted by the NTA. This disgraceful episode has once again exposed the entrenched rot in India’s education system and lays bare the NTA’s abject incompetence to hold these examinations.
Deplorably, instead of remedying the NEP’s disastrous consequences, the BJP and its affiliates target those who question the system. The murder of Janab Mafik in Bankura, West Bengal, for merely highlighting a local school’s lack of infrastructure is the epitome of their intolerance. The CPI(M) condemns this killing and demands the BJP government to immediately apprehend the perpetrators and ensure their punishment.
Both the Union and State Governments must ensure basic infrastructure, including adequate teachers, in all public educational institutions. They must focus on improving educational infrastructure, bolstering public education, and conducting transparent, foolproof examinations. Students will be empowered by such substantive actions, not by hollow pronouncements and repressive measures.
