The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) condemns the attack by workers belonging to the Trinamul Congress on CPI(M) Polit Bureau member and Secretary of the West Bengal State Committee, Com. Surya Kanta Mishra today.
Comrade Surya Kanta Mishra was leading a procession in the connection with the bye elections to the Tamluk parliamentary constituency in the Haldia segment. The Left Front candidate belonging to the CPI(M), Smt. Mandira Pande is contesting from this seat.
What makes the attack more reprehensible is that it took place in the presence of senior police officials. This is the latest incident in the continued campaign of violence that the Trinamul Congress has unleashed against the CPI(M) and the Left Front in West Bengal.
The West Bengal State Committee of the Party has called upon all its units in the state to organise protest actions against this heinous attack.
