Press Release

Court issues notice to Delhi Police on Complaint against Anurag Thakur

While hearing a plea by Brinda Karat, Member of the Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) and K.M.Tewari (Secy Delhi State Committee) the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vishal Pahuja has directed the DCP, New Delhi to submit a report on the non-filing of FIRs against BJP leaders Shri Anurag Thakur and Shri Parvesh Verma for delivering hate speeches in Delhi recently, during the campaign for the assembly elections.

The Court gave this direction after Karat had approached the court after her written complaints to the Commissioner of Police and the SHO, Parliament Street failed to elicit any response.  She and K.M.Tewari  had written to the Commissioner on January 29 and subsequently on 31, while the letter to the SHO Parliament Street was sent on February 2.

In their complaint they had sought filing of FIRs under Sec. 153A/ 153B/ 295A/ 298/ 504/ 505/ 506 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 among others against Anurag Thakur and Parvesh Verma.

The said Members of Parliament had sought to incite people as a result of which three incidents of firing took place at two different protest sites in Delhi.

The Court has asked the DCP to file his reply by February 11, 2020.
