(5 p.m.)
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
Though the final results have not yet been declared, the BJP alliance is inching towards a narrow majority in the Tripura assembly of 60 MLAs, compared to the 44 seats the alliance had won in the previous election in 2018.
Even this small majority has been acquired after spending unprecedented amounts of money and other malpractices.
The CPI(M) greets all those who have voted for the Left Front and opposition candidates by rejecting the BJP.
The Polit Bureau congratulates the thousands of cadres and workers of the CPI(M) and Left Front who, after braving the repression unleashed on them in the past five years, came forward courageously to conduct the election campaign and to reach out to the people, whom they had been deprived of meeting for a long time.
The CPI(M) and the Left Front will work with renewed commitment and energy to defend the interests of the people.
