The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) expresses deep grief at the passing away of Comrade Suneet Chopra, who collapsed while travelling in the Metro from Gurgaon to Delhi. He was 81 years old.
Suneet Chopra was active in the student movement in JNU and became a member of the Central Executive Committee of the SFI. He joined the Party in 1972.
Suneet went on to become one of the founding members of the youth organization, the Democratic Youth Federation of India.
He became a dedicated cadre of the agricultural workers movement and played an important role in organising agricultural workers in the north-western part of India. He was the Joint Secretary of the All India Agricultural Workers Union for a long time.
Suneet Chopra was elected to the Central Committee of the CPI(M) at the 15th Congress in 1995 and remained in that position till 2015.
Suneet Chopra was widely read and knowledgeable about art and became a noted art critic.
In his death, the Party has lost a committed Marxist. The Polit Bureau extends its heartfelt condolences to all his family members.
