Press Statement
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) deeply mourns the demise of its Central Committee member and veteran communist, Comrade Mallu Venkata Narasimha Reddy. He passed away on December 5 after being hospitalized for some months.
Com. Narasimha Reddy was one of the prominent heroes of the Telengana armed struggle. Remaining underground for nine long years, he had organised the armed squads in battling the Nizam’s army and the razakars. He steadfastly upheld the revolutionary tenets of Marxism-Leninism and played an important role when both the revisionist and the Left adventurist divisions had deeply divided the communist movement in Andhra Pradesh.
As the district secretary of Nalagonda, he played a pivotal role in the Telengana armed struggle. Com. Narasimha Reddy built the Party and its mass organisations to emerge as the leading Left force in the district and in the state. After India’s independence in 1947, he played an important role in pressurising the Nizam of Hyderabad to join independent India.
Though born in a rich peasant family which had close links with the repressive landlords of the region, Com. NV as he was fondly called by everybody, gave up this family background to join the armed struggle and the subsequent class struggles in Andhra Pradesh. Having embraced Marxism and the communist outlook, he lived a simple life all through and continuously served the interests of the people without any hesitation.
In his death, the Communist movement in Andhra Pradesh has lost a towering leader. The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) dips the red flag in memory of this communist leader. The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) conveys its heartfelt condolences to his wife Com. Mallu Swarajam, CPI(M) Central Committee Member, and his two sons and daughter.
