Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

On Arrest of Karunanidhi and Corruption Cases

The CPI(M) has consistently maintained that whatever cases are there of corruption and law-breaking by political leaders who have held public office and government functionaries, these should be pursued through the legal process. The corruption cases filed in Tamilnadu fall within this category.

However, the manner in which the arrest of former Chief Minister Karunanidhi and related incidents took place, have created an adverse impression among the people. This is unfortunate. The state government should ensure that while pursuing such cases, it does not adopt a vindictive attitude.
