Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Ram Prakash Gupta has announced that he would allow construction of the Ram temple at the site where the Babri Masjid stood as long as the law and order is not affected. He has further asserted that he would permit the VHP to construct the temple, provided they took this criminal step in a peaceful manner. Such outrageous statements flout all decisions of the judiciary and violate the Constitutional responsibility of the state government to prevent any illegal activity at the site in Ayodhya.

The Chief Minister is repeatedly making such statements knowing fully well that the BJP-RSS combine is only waiting for an opportune time to build the temple at the site where the Masjid stood.

A Chief Minister who violates elementary norms of running an administration cannot continue in office. The non-BJP parties in the National Democratic Alliance should explain how they view such blatantly communal and disruptive statements from a BJP Chief Minister.
