The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
Despite widespread opposition, George Fernandes has been taken back into the Union Cabinet. By this action, the BJP-led government has lost all credibility. It is obvious that the re-induction of George Fernandes has taken place because of the pressure of Mr. Fernandes and his party. This exposes the real nature of the NDA itself, which has been from the outset an opportunistic combine.
The Vajpayee government’s brazenness in disregarding the judicial commission, which it itself set up, has shocked even its supporters. The people also know that as a consequence of the Tehelka tape exposures army officers have been investigated and proceeded against. Now the defence minister will once again be a person whose involvement in the unsavoury affair has not been cleared
