Press Statement

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), now in session at New Delhi, has issued the following statement:

Recall Bihar Governor

Facing imminent defeat on the Floor of the House, the NDA Chief Minister in Bihar has submitted his resignation. With this ends the sordid chapter of the attempt made by the BJP-led NDA to subvert democracy in Bihar. This is a big defeat for the communal forces in Bihar.

The Governor Mr. V.C. Pande was clearly a part of the conspiracy to foist the NDA government in Bihar. It was crystal clear from the beginning that they were not in a position to muster majority. The Governor has, thus, by his action permitted both time and scope for naked horse-trading. Fortunately for Indian democracy, despite all efforts of horse-trading this conspiracy could not succeed. The Governor V.C. Pande has no right to continue in office and should quit forthwith. Failing which he should immediately be recalled.

Respecting the mandate of the people in Bihar, Smt. Rabri Devi should now be asked to form the government in the state.

The CPI(M) calls upon all secular forces in Bihar to unitedly rebuff the conspiracies of the communal forces.
