Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

Restore STD Services in Kashmir

The decision of the Central government to withdraw STD and ISD services from all privately-run public call offices in the Kashmir Valley from January 1, 2002 has led to a large number of people losing their livelihood with the closure of the STD booths.

In the name of checking terrorist activities, such a step has led to great inconvenience for the ordinary people. Even jawans of the army and security forces posted in the Valley are unable to contact their families.

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) demands that the government immediately withdraw this unwarranted step and restore STD links for the private call offices in the Kashmir Valley.
