Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

The Sinister Move Against the Tamilnadu Government

The media has reported that the Union Home Ministry has asked the Tamilnadu government to depute a few IPS officers at present working in Tamilnadu for being posted in the Central Secretariat. This move is not a simple administrative matter but has definite political implications.

The move, it is clear, follows the continuous pressure by a key NDA ally, the DMK, and its central ministers Murosali Maran and T.R. Balu, on the NDA government to take vindictive action against the Tamilnadu government. This move is aimed at scuttling the enquiry commission set up by the Tamilnadu government to go into the allegations about the events connected with Shri Karunanidhi's arrest. These officers are key persons connected with the enquiry.

The Centre's move is a clear violation of the norms governing Centre-State relations and will have far reaching implications.

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) calls upon the Union government to desist from proceeding with this action.
