Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

On Manipur Crisis

The ruling alliance at the Centre have subjected the country to an unseemly spectacle about the goings on in Manipur. The BJP and the Samata Party are engaged in an open and shameless quarrel about who should grab the state government in Manipur. The defeat of the Koijam Ministry through a no confidence motion has only aggravated the matter.

The sordidness of the tussle between the BJP and the Samata is underlined by the fact that neither of these parties had won the mandate in the last assembly elections. It is by wholesale defections the Samata first mustered enough support to form the Ministry last year. And, now the same is being done by the BJP.

The leadership of the two parties have now announced a truce and that the status quo will continue till May 28. In the meantime, the mockery of democracy will continue. Neither seem concerned about the interests of the state and the people. The Manipur episode has further discredited an already battered NDA.
