The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

In Solidarity with Kerala

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has extended its wholehearted support to Kerala’s satyagraha and expressed solidarity with the LDF Government in its struggle in defence of its rights and against the centre’s attack on federalism and denial of the state’s rights. The struggle is also against the Union Government’s financial neglect towards the state.

Over the last five years, Kerala has suffered a huge loss of Rs. 57,000 crores in revenue, due to the Union Government’s financial discrimination against the state. Kerala’s share in tax devolution, grants and scheme funds have been reduced. Restrictions have also been imposed upon its borrowing limits by misinterpreting constitutional provisions.

Kerala’s share in central taxes has been reduced from 3.875 per cent during the 10th Finance Commission to just 1.925 per cent in the current 15th Finance Commission. In 2024-25 alone, this has caused a loss of Rs. 27,000 crores to the state. Several payments due to the state have been kept pending by the Union Government. All these are posing serious constraints to the state’s finances.

Kerala is a model to the entire country in both development and welfare. The state is merely demanding what is rightfully owed to it, and not for any generosity from the Union Government. The Polit Bureau demands that the Union Government heed Kerala’s legitimate concerns and immediately put an end to its financial vendetta against the state.

The Polit Bureau greets the people of Kerala who are participating in the satyagraha in large numbers, under the leadership of their Chief Minister, Ministers, MPs and MLAs.
