Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

The Polit Bureau denounces the growing instances of violation of the constitutional fundamental right of personal life, freedom and liberty of Indian citizens, by enforcing strictures on lifestyle and dietary habits of the people.

This is an integral part of the RSS design to impose Hindutva values and create communal polarisation.

The Maharashtra government has recently banned the consumption of bovine and other meat. The BJP state government in Rajasthan had also issued a similar order earlier. In Jammu & Kashmir, the High Court has directed the enforcement of a similar ban invoking the anachronistic 1932 Ranbir Penal Code of the erstwhile Dogra princely state. Keeping in mind the sentiments, habits and traditions of the people of Jammu & Kashmir, the state government must contest this through the judicial process.

While respecting the religious sentiments of different sections of the people, moral policing cannot be enforced to prescribe lifestyle and dietary habits on the people.

The Polit Bureau strongly condemns such efforts.
