Press Statement
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
Com. Madan Ghosh
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) expresses deep grief at the death of Madan Ghosh, former member of the Central Committee of the Party. He died this morning at his residence in Burdwan Town in West Bengal. He was 81 years old.
Madan Ghosh became a member of the undivided Communist party in 1959. During the decades of 1960s and 70s, when semi-fascist forces were ruling the state, he actively mobilised the people behind the Party, even while remaining underground for two and half years.
He was elected as a member of the CPI (M) West Bengal State Committee in 1992 and as a state secretariat member in the year 2002. During the 19th Party Congress held at Coimbatore in 2008, he was elected as a member of the Central Committee of the Party.
Madan Ghosh was a leader of the agrarian movement and played an active role in spreading the movement across the country as State President of PBKS and as Vice-President of AIKS. He also served as the Sabhadipati of Burdwan Zilla Parishad for some time.
A committed Marxist-Leninist, he was humble and known for his down-to-earth personality.
The Polit Bureau conveys its heartfelt condolences to his wife and other members of his family.
