The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) expresses its deep grief at the passing away of Comrade Noorul Huda, a senior leader of the Party and the kisan movement. He died on December 17 at the age of 85.

 

Noorul Huda joined the Communist Party in 1949 as a student activist in Kolkata.  He gave up his job as Engineer and shifted to Silchar, Assam in 1966 and started working in the Kisan Sabha and Communist Party. Noorul Huda became a member of the Assam provincial committee of Kisan Sabha and a member of the Central Kisan Council  in 1967 and continued in the same position  till he breathed his last.  He also worked as Finance Secretary of the All India Kisan Sabha from 2006 to 2013.

 

Noorul Huda became a member of the  Assam State Committee of the CPI(M) in 1970 and State Secretariat in  1978.  He was elected to the Central Committee of the Party in 1985 at the 12th Congress and continued as Central Committee member till the 20th Congress in 2012. 

 

He was jailed number of times and spent two years and eight months in jail.

 

Noorul Huda was elected as a Member of Parliament in 1973 from Silchar constituency and a Member of Legislative Assembly in Assam for one term.

 

The Polit Bureau deeply condoles the death of this veteran Communist leader. He selflessly worked throughout his life for the upliftment of the Indian people adhering to the Marxist-Leninist worldview.  In his death the Communist movement and the peasant movement have suffered a big loss.
